How To Cancel Shopify Subscription And Get Refund 2024 (Beginners Guide)

Introduction

How To Cancel Shopify Subscription And Get Refund 2024, Shopify makes it easy to start an e-commerce business. With their subscription plans, you get access to powerful tools and features to create an online store. However, situations change and you may eventually want to cancel your Shopify subscription. Thankfully, Shopify also makes it relatively straightforward to cancel and get a refund for any unused subscription time you may have left. In this article, we’ll explore step-by-step how to go about canceling and getting refunded appropriately.

VIDEO TUTORIAL:-

Check Your Billing Cycle Status

Before attempting to cancel, you’ll want to check on when your next billing cycle ends. You can find this date by going into your Shopify admin and clicking “Billing” in the left sidebar. This will show your currently active subscription plan and the date you’ll be billed again. Make note of when this billing cycle ends as any refund would be calculated from your next scheduled payment date.

Consider Downgrading vs Canceling Completely

Rather than canceling Shopify altogether, you may want to explore the option of downgrading to a lower-tier subscription instead. Shopify offers a few “Lite” plans that are cheaper with fewer product listings or sales channels connected. These may provide enough core e-commerce functionality if you still need to keep your current store active but are trying to reduce recurring costs at the moment. Downgrading tiers also avoids having to redo your store setup entirely if you want to resume normal business later on.

Cancel Automatic Payments

If after reviewing your billing cycle you do decide to fully cancel your subscription, the next step is to disable any auto payments you have set up. This prevents Shopify from withdrawing subscription fees automatically out of your linked payment method. Log in to your Shopify Payments account using your normal admin login details and find the “ billing” section. Click “Manage automatic payments” and then click the button to turn automatic collection for subscription fees to “OFF”.  With auto-pay disabled, your subscription will pause at the end of the current billing cycle.

Submit a Shopify Cancellation Request

Now you are ready to formally cancel your Shopify subscription. The easiest way is to submit a cancellation request directly from within your Shopify admin. Click “Settings” and find “Cancel Shopify plan” under Account information. A popup will appear asking you to confirm cancellation after the current billing cycle ends. Check the box confirming you understand what the cancellation entails and then click “Submit cancellation request”.

Get Refund for Unused Subscription Time

If you cancel midway through your billing cycle, Shopify will refund the remainder of any unused subscription fees you have already paid. For example, if you pre-paid for a year subscription but are only 6 months into that year when you decide to cancel your plan, you will get the second 6 months refunded. Refunds are processed back to your original payment method, usually within 5-7 days after a cancellation process. No additional action is needed on your part to get this automatic refund other than going through the cancellation steps already outlined above.

Conclusion

It’s simple enough to cancel a Shopify subscription and get appropriately refunded for any unused prepaid fees. Just remember to disable auto payments first before submitting a formal cancellation request. Confirm what the exact end date of your current billing cycle is and then expect a prorated refund of any unused remaining subscription time. With a few clicks, you can cancel Shopify and move forward with closing down your store if needed.
